The Girls Academy (GA) is the leading youth development platform for the best female soccer players in the United States

Recreational soccer is a large component of the Santa Cruz Breakers Soccer Club. The primary objective of the Recreational program is to provide a consistently positive soccer experience for the youth of our community.

Santa Cruz Breakers offers a Competitive program for players whose desire, ability, commitment, and passion for the game catapult them toward developing their skills to the highest level possible. Competitive teams are selected through a tryout process.

Summer Camp opportunities are designed to help players improve their overall skills. All recreational training camps are open to all Santa Cruz Breakers players.

The Select program is a new offering geared toward players who desire a soccer commitment that is more demanding than Recreational, but less than Competitive. Players tryout and must be selected and coached by paid Breakers staff.

Santa Cruz Breakers tournaments are an opportunity for players to develop and show off their skills on the field. Santa Cruz Breakers offers tournaments for ages U9 – U19!

The Santa Cruz County Breakers is dedicated to developing the whole player; the goal for each player is to achieve technical excellence while finding the joy in training thus establishing a life-long love for the game. The Breakers’ goal is to develop complete players that Santa Cruz County will be proud to call alumni.

Life Long Love of the Game

When dedicated players achieve a superior standard of play, meeting their goals as a player, a natural love of the game follows. The Breakers is committed to and will promote the game of soccer among youth players, at the elite developmental levels of play, in Santa Cruz County.

Technical Excellence

The Santa Cruz Breakers is devoted to the development of the dedicated youth soccer players of Santa Cruz County. As such we have an obligation to develop the individual character of each player as well as their technical and tactical proficiency. Our goal is to continue to attain the highest level of excellence, gaining regional, national and international recognition for the quality of player and person that we field.

Joy in Training

The club creates a training environment that is a benefit to the individual as well as the team. Our professional coaches conduct expert training sessions designed to develop players to their full potential. Through individual and team successes players find the joy in training. While winning is important for all competitive teams, winning will not be place above the development of players.

Developing the Whole Player

The Breakers maintains a foundational principle borrowed from the Positive Coaching Alliance - "Put the player first". By putting the player first, envisioning the entire player, mind, and body, we continue to develop great people, and, in turn, great players. A positive team sports experience will promote a youth's self-confidence and self-esteem on and off the field.

As an academy club program, the Santa Cruz Breakers coaching staff had the honor of attending US Soccer’s exclusive presentation of the new U.S. Soccer coaching curriculum delivered by Claudio Reyna. To be in line with the federation, all the Breakers coaches are committed to following this new curriculum created by US Soccer to better the player development in the Santa Cruz County and the Central Coast. Under the guidelines and the supervision of the Federation, The Breakers is dedicated to developing players from the grassroots level to the elite level.

The presentation of the U.S. Soccer coaching curriculum is another major step in the implementation of the framework developed by the Player Development Task Force, which was created in 2006 to review all aspects of player development in the United States and recommend a course of action.

The curriculum is designed to improve the development of players in the organized player base in the United States, concentrating on creating more organized, age-appropriate training sessions, developing coaching practices and creating an environment that is fun for the players.

The curriculum builds on the successful launch and growth of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Initiated in the fall of 2007 after a detailed review of player development systems in the U.S. and across the world, the Development Academy has improved the training environment; provided relevant, high-level matches on a consistent basis; increased the level and efficiency of scouting for the national teams and provided players, coaches and referees with more structured programming.
